As the Days Rolled Back

from It's Hard to Know by Ivy Ross Ricci

Next Ross Ricci takes us on a journey through the Fall - the season Fall, as the days roll back, getting shorter and shorter, and then the fall of ideals as we find ourselves in darkened cities of our own false beliefs that are a product of an education system fueled by the need for more cogs in a capitalist machine. We escape this prison by steadfastly offering our attention to the note we are singing and the breath we are breathing. We find the power of attention. Ross Ricci wrote this song from the office of Scott Nearing during her stint as a resident steward at The Good Life Center in Harborside, Maine. Scott Nearing was a radical economist and homesteader, the first professor at the University of Pennsylvania to speak out against child labor in the early 20th century. This is the kind of visionary from whom Ross Ricci takes her cues.

Ivy's original songs exude gumption, gratitude and often educational material. As with her myriad creative endeavors: spontaneous synchronized dance moves, audience participation, and an appointment with the sacred clown are de rigueur.
